Renee Tondelli and Julian Slater Talk the Sound of Chicago 7

Soundworks Collection featured our Warner Brothers PPCS sound talent who worked on Director Aaron Sorkin’s new film, The Trial of the Chicago 7 with Supervising Sound Editor Renee Tondelli and Re-recording Mixer Julian Slater. This film, now streaming on Netflix, is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy arising from the countercultural protest in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Our amazing talent had a virtual interview with Michael Coleman about the message and cultural significance of this project and how the pandemic impacted post on this film.

Tondelli explained that the lockdown provided a challenge to the sound team because they were not able to have actors gather on a stage, so everybody had to record in their homes. She reflected that many of the chants that she heard over this past year, were the same used 50 years ago. This reinforced the sound teams approach to the chants used in the film, to create a authentic and significant impact. For more, watch the hour long interview here.
